There are many famous people in our republic. Among them you can find the names of politicians and public figures, scientists, heroes of war, sportsmen and artists.

First I’d like to mention the names of our outstanding national writers Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas. They created a new Belarusian literature and a Belarusian literary language. Both are considered to be the classics of Belarusian literature. These names are followed by a number of other well-known writers and poets, such as Korotkevich, Chorny, Krapiva, Bykov, Tank known both in our country and abroad.

The cultural life of Belarus has always been very interesting and varied. Among the leading composers are Aladov, Bogatyrov, Smolsky, Luchenok, Alovnikov and others.

In the family of cosmonauts there are also 2 Belarusians, A. Kovalyonok and P. Klimuk.

Perhaps the most famous of all people from Belarus, Marc Chagall is known around the world as a master of avant-garde art. Other famous artists such as Napoleon Orda and Ivan Krutsky are famous not only in Belarus but abroad.

Of course, talented Belarusian sportsmen make our country famous. For example, the best freestyler wrestler of the XX century Alexander Medved; the legendary gymnast Olga Korbut, who won 4 Olympic Gold medals; a gymnast Vitaly Shcherbo; Igor Makarov won a gold medal in judo at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games; Julia Nesterenko; the most famous Belarusian tennis players Maxim Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenko, who won London Olympic Games in 2012; Darya Domracheva; Ruslan Saley, one of the best sportsmen in Belarus hockey history and many others.
